On 15 January 2026, the ClearAir symposium on Clouds and Aerosols was held at SRON, highlighting the impressive latest scientific results from the PACE and EarthCARE satellites. The symposium was a great success with more than 60 scientists from several Dutch universities and institutes attending. The symposium was organized by Bastiaan van Diedenhoven (SRON).

First speakers Gerd-Jan van Zadelhoff (KNMI) and Otto Hasekamp (SRON) gave impressive overviews of the EarthCARE and PACE satellite products and their status and highlighting some first scientific results on aerosol and clouds. After a break, speakers Jessie Zhang (TNO), Yusuf Bhatti (SRON), Xuemei Wang (KNMI) and Thanos Tsikerdekis (KNMI) demonstrated the quality of the observations and their unique potential to improve reanalysis and climate models and reduce uncertainties in climate predictions.

ClearAir is a consortium of Dutch R&D organizations (SRON, TNO, KNMI, TU Delft) with a strong focus on the design and development of innovative satellite instruments, retrieval algorithms and the modeling of atmospheric processes, chemistry and emissions.
